A kind-hearted woman has come up with a novel way to help freezing cold homeless people keep warm this winter.
As temperatures continue to plummet across the UK, Fay Sibley decided to collect a dozen unwanted coats from friends and family and set up a small stall outside Colchester Library in Essex.

To get the ball rolling she created a sign saying: ‘Need a coat? Take one. Want to help? Leave one.’
As passersby spotted the goodwill gesture, dozens more coats have started to appear and Fay’s Facebook post has been shared more than 1,000 times.
Fay said: ‘I took a picture and asked people to share it, and later the same day there were about 40 coats. There were about ten there last night.’
‘I have been overwhelmed and hopefully we will get even more momentum,’ she added.
