An elderly Adelaide man who broke the nation’s heart on listing site Gumtree has gone fishing in southeast Queensland.
Ray Johnstone posted an online advertisement for a “fishing mate” on January 19 after following the suggestion of his care nurse.
The ad went viral, garnering thousands of clicks and many messages of support for the 75-year-old on social media.
Today, Mr Johnstone was flown up to Amity Point on North Stradbroke island for an all-expenses-paid, two-day fishing trip, the Courier Mail reported.
He was hosted by local carpenter Mati Batsinilas, who documented the heart-warming adventure on Facebook.
“I’m fishing with Ray,” Mr Batsinilas posted, along with a selfie of his new found fishing buddy.
Another snap showed the pair holding an impressive mulloway on the back of the boat.
He said they will head back at “first light” for more fishing tomorrow.
