A Brisbane couple are taking generosity to the next level by giving away land to help tackle the housing affordability crisis.
Ian and Neva Handy have offloaded enough land in the Moreton Bay region for 50 townhouses, in a $10.5 million development to be created by the not-for-profit Churches of Christ Housing Services.
“It’s so those who need affordable housing or have difficulty affording rent can take the benefit of this opportunity,” Mr Handy told the TODAY Show this morning.
“We were working with Churches of Christ affordable housing to do this and it became difficult for private enterprise to get involved because of the extra costs. For a charitable organisation, it’s a lot more cost effective.”
He said people looking to get involved would have to lodge an application, undergo assessment and would then be housed in the community of Kallangur, 27km north of Brisbane’s CBD.
