The BOS Foundation, in cooperation with Central Kalimantan BKSDA, has successfully rescued a 5-year-old female orangutan in Tanggirang village, Kapuas Hulu sub-district, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan.
The rescue took place on April 29, after receiving information from the Kapuas Hulu Chief of Police. A preliminary physical examination conducted by our medical team has determined this is an albino orangutan: her hair, eye, and skin color is paler than normal, and she is also sensitive to light. We will continue to observe her and conduct routine health tests. She was held captive by local residents for two days and still displays wild behaviours. Once we have fully assessed her health and physical status we will review the best possible strategies for her long-term welfare and conservation.
