A Connecticut woman likely saved a child’s life when she jumped in front of a speeding car to push him out of the way, police said.
Shanta Jordan and the young boy were struck when the car careened off the road and smashed the two against a wall.
Authorities said Jordan didn’t know the boy she tried to save.
While she and the kid were both still injured, officials believe she absorbed most of the impact and saved the young boy’s life, according to local news station KRON4.
“If she did not step in, the child would be in direct contact with the motor vehicle against the wall, and most likely, he would have perished,” Bridgeport police chief A.J. Perez told KRON4. “He would have died.”
Doctors initially feared they’d have to amputate both the child’s legs, but doctors managed to save his limbs after hours of surgery.
