BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (KTUL) — It can be hard for kids to get a proper meal during the summer.
During the school year, kids can get free or reduced price lunches. But food is hard to come by for some families during the summer.
That’s all changing thanks to Broken Arrow Public Schools.
The BAPS Cafe Food Truck and Summer Feeding Program provides meals some area kids may not otherwise get.
We caught up with one mom who says she and her son take advantage of the Broken Arrow Cafe five days a week.
“We are a family with five kids at home and so summer time our grocery bill increases exponentially,” she said.
Add that to other bills and some families can’t make ends meet.
The Oklahoma State Department of Education reports every time a kid misses a meal, it affects their well being and their ability to learn.
