TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) – A homeowner is lucky he had his service dog with him on Monday night, as his house goes up in flames. 
Crews from the Tucson Fire Department battled a residential fire in the 5100 block of East 23rd Street, near 22nd and Rosemont, according to TFD Captain, Andy Skaggs. 
A man in his 50s was asleep inside the home when the fire broke out.  It was his service dog that woke him up, both were able to get outside safely. According to TFD there were no working smoke alarms inside the home.
Tucson police were down the street on a separate call when they saw the flames and rushed to the scene.  
Investigators are reporting the fire began in the backyard of the home and spread to the shed and then caught the house on fire.  No word yet on what caused the fire.
