ST. PETER — Police officer Joshua Klaseus received a Life Saving Award at the St. Peter City Council meeting Monday night.
Klaseus rescued a family of three from a burning house last fall while waiting for the fire department to respond, said St. Peter Police Chief Matthew Peters.
“His instinct to investigate and quick actions undoubtedly saved the lives of three people at the risk of his own life,” Peters said.
While on patrol in the early hours of the morning on Oct. 11, 2016, Klaseus smelled smoke. He drove through each street looking for the source until he found the home on fire and called the fire department.
“He opened the front door and was overcome by smoke,” Peters said. “He was only able to see about 8 feet in the smoke, he heard a dog bark and a woman’s voice.”
