Huntington Beach resident Victor Koman knew something wasn’t right when he heard his dogs barking at a power pole at 3 a.m. Friday.
After a quick investigation, Koman discovered that a raccoon was lying on the power pole’s crossbeam, according to a statement posted Tuesday by Southern California Edison. The animal was still there nearly seven hours later.
Several agencies, including the Huntington Beach Fire Department, SCE and Orange County Animal Control, showed up at the scene at 9:30 a.m.
A video recorded by Koman shows Edison workers using bucket truck lifts to reach the little guy, and it even stretched its hand out to one of the workers.
Thanks to guidance from the Edison workers, the raccoon finally gained the courage to climb down the pole without getting electrocuted.
