Their sons teamed up with some basketball legends or were stars themselves. Now the players’ mothers are teaming up with a powerhouse in the literacy world.
The Mothers of Professional Basketball Players Inc. and Scholastic worked together to bring 700 books to three third-grade classes at Garrett Elementary School. Students helped name the categories and organized the books in their resource library, which were placed in the classrooms. Being in the classroom will help get them engaged and keep them excited about reading.
“We have a reading time, and they have different stations they rotate to so now having a lounge they can read at, having extra books they can go through, already organized – it’s just gonna make them more excited about reading,” teacher Brian Doud said.
His students are not the only ones benefiting; Doud is looking forward to the extra help the resource library will provide for him as well.
