Groups pitch in to set injured man up in ground-floor apartment

The Graham Police Department, with the help of several businesses and individuals, has helped a man who was about to become evicted find a new home and furniture.
James Starke has lived in Graham for several decades at the same upstairs apartment on Harden Street. Upon breaking his leg several months ago, he was unable to access his apartment and resorted to living in hotels since he couldn’t go up and down stairs.
“Back in April, I was unloading something on the truck, and I fell down and fractured my leg in a couple of places,” Starke said. “I haven’t been able to get up on account of the steps. One more month, I would have been there 33 years.”
