When 45 men, mostly from Downriver, were thrown out of Comerica Park last week that should have been the end of that particular story.
The men were dressed as Thomas Magnum, the titular character played by Tom Selleck on the show Magnum, P.I., and were celebrating Joe Tuccini’s pending marriage. Members of the Detroit Tigers security staff escorted them out of the park during the 6th inning of Star Wars night, Sept. 16.

The News-Herald broke the story about their ejection, and in the two days before the Tigers responded to requests for comment the story went international, appearing in Sports Illustrated, and on hundreds of TV news and interview shows, podcasts, radio stations, newspapers and websites.
Eventually the Tigers issued a statement that said members of the group violated the code of conduct multiple times, but didn’t specify which pieces of the code …
