TAMPA, Fla. – Saving dog owners hundreds of dollars and the lives of pets, too. The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is hosting a free dog vaccination clinic Saturday morning in Tampa.
“There’s a lot of people in this community that love their pets. They just can’t afford to take them to a vet,” says Sherry Silk, CEO of Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
The organization is hosting the event in an effort to keep the community safe from disease. Free shots will include parvo, distemper and rabies. The latter being especially important since the number of rabies cases is up in the Tampa Bay area. Rabies, often transmitted by bites from bats and raccoons, is deadly to both dogs and humans without treatment.
The shots would normally cost about $160. The Humane Society will vaccinate dogs from any area, not just Hillsborough County.
