EUGENE, Ore. — A volunteer group dedicated to feeding the homeless in Lane County reached a major milestone Sunday.
On Sunday afternoon, the Burrito Brigade served their one-hundred-thousandth burrito to someone in need.
It took them just three years to reach their goal, and they’re already looking forward to serving 100,000 more.
The Brigade’s kitchen is filled with more than a dozen volunteers who work to make hundreds of burritos to feed those in need.
“We head out on foot, on bike, or automobile and take food to the people.”
It’s a trip Jennifer Denson and the rest of the Burrito Brigade has made every weekend for the past three years.
“A hot burrito can really make someone’s day.”
The do it on Saturdays and Sundays because some social services are closed on the weekends, which means some on the street might not get a meal.
She says nearly a thousand people receive a burrito every weekend.
