The Supreme Court on Tuesday said it was “absolutely illegal” for anyone to attack couples marrying outside their caste while reading the riot act. The court also said that it would lay down guidelines if the government did not bring a legislation to protect such couples.
A former lieutenant general tried to dissipate the negative notion about khap panchayat and said it was because of their efforts that the sex ratio in northern states had improved.
The bench replied by saying that and adult girl and adult boy are free to according to their choice irrespective of the caste they belong from and there is no one who can refrain them from doing so by force. The judiciary made it crystal clear that it is not concerned about the khaps at all.
