A Queensland man has been hailed a hero for coming to the aid of a neighbour after she became trapped by a house fire early this morning.
Firefighters were called to the blaze at a single-storey home on Crawford Street in Redcliffe, north of Brisbane, about 12.17am.
The residents, both wheelchair users, were able to escape the building with the help of their neighbour Bryan after he was alerted to the fire by the sound of breaking glass.
“We came outside, seen the fire and Rod the owner next door was calling to his wife Robin – they’re both in wheelchairs,” he told 9NEWS.
“And Robin was stuck up on the ramp and couldn’t get past ‘cause the fire was coming out of the window.
“So I just sort of helped her down, sort of grabbed her – lifted her over the balcony.”
